At this time of year, many employees do some reflecting. Some hate their jobs and want a change (see our previous blog for some tips) and others love what they do. Some just feel a fresh start could be just the thing to jump start their career. Whatever the reason, here are some tips to look for a job during the holidays, inspired by an article from the Business Insider.
* Getting a jump – many employees put a halt on the job search process instead focusing on holiday parties, shopping and other festive activities. If you are start now, you can get an edge on your competition. Search the job board and other online sites like the jobs we are recruiting for.
* Use your connections – holidays bring family and friends together and this could also help you make some new connections. Did you know your Uncle John works at a firm you are trying to get into? Or maybe Cousin Emily has a connection at her company’s accounting department. Use the holidays to renew your connections.
* Don’t avoid the holiday parties – yes sometimes holiday parties can be a waste of time but they are also a good chance to make some good connections as well. If you work at a larger firm, spend some time at your company’s next holiday function to strike up a conversation with the manager over the department you are trying to get into. Or maybe reconnect with some of the employees from the finance department so you can have several people “in your corner” when time comes to fill the next position.
