At Financial Additions, we work with the candidates we place to make a good first impression at their new job or temporary assignment. Good first impressions on the first day make a world of difference. Of course, that’s followed up by being a great employee (check out our blog post on that topic from the spring).
We recently came across a list of things recommended to make a good first impression on the first day:
* Show up on time – map out your route the night before and factor in traffic or construction
* Remember their names – you’ll be introduced to all kinds of people on the first day so get creative on how to remember their names and what it is they do for the company. It will be very impressive to them when you see them in the hallway later on and you can strike up a conversation that doesn’t begin with “… And what was your name again?”
* Take good notes – whether you bring a notebook or jot them down on your smartphone app, take good notes throughout the day. Be sure to LISTEN but when possible take good notes so you won’t have to be told twice
