Preparing for the job interview in the financial and accounting industry can be crucial to your success. Whether interviewing for an accounting job in Dallas or financial analyst job in San Diego, you have to be prepared.
Doug Hall, Managing Partner at Financial Additions, has prepared these helpful tips: 3 Things You Must Do Before An Interview:
1. Research the Company – It sounds elementary but you need know as much as you can about the company BEFORE you interview. The information will help you shape your questions around growth opportunities and updated information. If the industry is new to you, the company’s profile will help you understand terms and specific industry jargon. Pay close attention to recent press releases, you can reference those in the interview. One of the worst question you can ask is “What does the company do?”
2. Rehearse standard interview questions – If you haven’t interviewed in a while or if you are continually stumped by a certain question, it is a good idea to rehearse your answers. Financial Additions has a list of standard interview questions to review. Be sure to know your resume, without referencing it. Be prepared with specific examples of successes.
3. Know where you are going and be on time – If you are unfamiliar with where a company is located, be sure to drive it before you go as part of a trial run. If you can’t drive it ahead of time, leave yourself enough time to get lost and to find it. Recently, GPS has misled or confused candidates and they were late to the interview which left a bad impression on the company. If you are too late, they might cancel due to scheduling conflicts. It is not a great way to start an interview.
Good luck in your interview!
